Digital Economy Act: This means war | Cory Doctorow | Technology | guardian.co.uk →

What do we do to prevent our government passing oppressive laws?

I don't know/understand politics at all, but surely making new things illegal should only be possible if society pretty much unanimously agrees? When you end up in court, don't you have to be convicted by the Jury pretty much unanimously? So how can they convict you unanimously based on a law that not everyone believes in?

Who can I elect that will represent my interests regarding the digital future? I can't even work out who cares about the digital future!
