The new gmail layout is a bit odd. Mail, Contacts and Tasks in the top spot on their own. Should Buzz move up there to join them? Maybe move reader, calendar (and wave!) there too all with useful indicators, and then move the panel down to the bottom left.

Just jailbreaked (or jailbroke, or jailed break?!) my iPhone using jailbreakme.com

So far it's been really easy and straight forward. It's downloading updates to cydia…

This post gives some interesting insight to the differences between business in Europe and China. It seems very biased, but I find these sorts of differences fascinating. Comments are worth reading too for some other biased opinions 😉

iPhone 3G performance on iOS 4

July 25th, 2010

I found this hint on Daring Fireball, and my iPhone is happy again!

If you’ve found your iPhone 3G to be almost unusable since upgrading to iOS 4, then try doing a DFU restore, as described at http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=1034

I did it last night, and so far the phone is loads better. It restores all your data and settings, but does a completely clean install of the firmware.

Since doing it, I’ve been switching between apps, loading websites etc and nothing has crashed (yet). Even apps that always crashed are working now!

Update: Shortly after this, I jailbroke my phone. The extra features were great – particularly having a wi-fi hotspot for my iPad, and being able to pull down a little system panel any time, to enable/disable radios or check the status of my memory/network etc.

However, performance again deteriorated until the phone was pretty much unusable again 🙁

I’ve done another DFU restore to the latest firmware… Let’s see if the phone maintains its usability this time.

iPad app pic: Air Display is great. Especially for Aperture if you don't already have a second screen 🙂

I've been doing full screen mode, with the photo browser on the iPad screen, and the currently selected photo filling my main display. Can even tap on photos to select them (but, sadly, trying to scroll by swiping doesn't work and keeps catching me out)

Turkish Stars at Waddington Airshow 2010

Turkish Stars at Waddington Airshow 2010

I was digging through some old panoramas, and found this photo that I took back at the air show at RAF Waddington, in 2010.

It’s actually 4 pictures stitched together. There’s 2 planes flying together, with one upside down, and they both flipped over at the same time. I’d like the 4 points in time to be more clear, but the pilots were just too quick!

I've just finished my third Cory Doctorow book. Another brilliant one: 'For The Win'. Lots of insight to other cultures and interesting stuff about economics. An epic story too. http://craphound.com/ftw/download/
