Stars

August 21st, 2011

We're so in the middle of nowhere that there's hardly any light pollution, so we can see the stars really clearly; even the Milky Way. We managed to glimpse the ISS as it passed low through the sky.

I managed to snap this picture (the first few attempts had little success, then I realised I still had the lens cap on. Oops)

Dunstanburgh Castle

August 21st, 2011

Today, we went to see a castle. Sadly, half of it was missing.

I made a quick and dirty panorama with my iPhone of the view from beneath the castle. http://360.io/cPeNUf

Holiday in Northumberland

August 21st, 2011

We're on holiday in Northumberland with Matt's family this week. The sky has been very dramatic for our first night! That's the cottage we're staying in. There's nothing else nearby… Sarah says it's like The Village, Signs and The Happening movies.

PS Sorry about the watermarks – the software is too expensive, so I've made do!

Just seen Super 8

August 15th, 2011

Fantastic film. Very exciting and just enough jumpy bits to not put you off. Lots of emotion and fun.

I think it's the first proper, classic style film I've seen in a long time.

Even Caroline was disappointed it ended! And the credits are great 🙂

It's one to see at cinema if you can.

I'm soooo relieved we didn't encounter this in Japan

Brick Lane

Brick Lane
Brick Lane

Caroline and I visited Brick Lane, in East London. We weren’t there on market day, so looking forward to a revisit. We loved the graffiti and the vibe of the place. It’s a bit like Camden Town, but more grungy. It’s not as vibrant, but friendly (despite the grunginess of the area!)

The Royal Wedding 2011

The Royal Wedding 2011
The Royal Wedding 2011

Some of Matthew’s family came down to London for the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton. We headed down the night before to try and find a good spot to soak up the atmosphere and be a part of the occasion.

While we were on the streets, I did my best to post updates and photos to the website.

We had lots of fun. It was really quite uncomfortable, trying to sleep in a camping chair. It got surprisingly cold in the early hours of the morning, and at about 0500 we were starting to wonder if it was a good idea. As it brightened and warmed, the crowd grew, and we all had fun. The all nighters and new comers got along, sharing experiences, in between stretching to catch a glimpse of royalty.

Phew!

April 29th, 2011

It's all over. We've made it back safe, and catching up on sleep (and the parts of the wedding we couldn't see from the front line).

Sorry the updates have been late. My mobile internet stopped working when too many iPhones gathered in one place.

Yippeee to the RAF

The Lancaster bomber and 2 Spitfires were followed by 2 Typhoons with 2 Tornados, flying straight down The Mall to Buckingham Palace.
